7月21日、日本に先駆けて全米やインターナショナルで公開された映画『バービー」が、週末3日間だけで全世界の興行収入3.37億ドル（約475億円）を超えて世界中で大ヒットのスタートとなっています。グローバルで1.5億ドル（約210億円）と噂されているマーケティングキャンペーンは、誰もが映画の内容をよく知らなかったにもかかわらず、大成功を収めたようです。なお、日本では8月11日より全国公開します。
映画『バービー」のマーケティングキャンペーンは多岐にわたっており、デジタル、テレビ、アウトドア、インストアなど、あらゆるチャネルを網羅しています。
このブログでは、OOH業界のコミュニティで賛否が分かれた２つのキャンペーン「ブルジュ・ハリファの3D広告」「ピンクのビルボード」を紹介します。
- ブルジュ・ハリファの3D広告
3Dシミュレーションされた巨大バービーがドバイのブルジュ・ハリファの隣に現れました。
バービーが象徴的なストライプの水着と黒いサングラス姿で巨大な箱から出てきてポーズをとる様子がSNSで数多く共有されています。これはUAEを拠点とするEye StudioによってCGIで作成された、バービーを世界一高いビルの隣に重ね合わせたトリックビデオです。最近紹介したメイベリンのまつげのスタントなど、OOH広告のフェイク最新作です。
フェイクのOOH広告の台頭について、この手法が広告の技術を損なうのか、それとも単なる楽しみなのか、意見が分かれています。特にOOH広告の分野で働いている人々は、フェイクのOOH広告が媒体予算を奪っているのではないかと疑っています。
ただ、屋外広告、交通広告、リテール広告のOOHでもバービーが席巻する中、このフェイク動画は数千のマーケティング活動の1つでしかありません。
- ピンクのビルボード
ティザー広告として、キャッチコピーもバービーの画像もなし、下部にバービーフォントで日付が書かれただけのピンクのビルボードが１ヶ月程前に掲出されました。この広告は、バービーの象徴的な色であるピンクを強調することで、ブランドの認知度を高めるのに効果的。かつシンプルなデザインは人々の記憶に残りやすい、と注目を集めました。
一方で、ピンクの色だけでバービーを連想できない人もいる。広告にキャッチコピーや画像がないため、意味を理解するのが難しい。といった否定的な意見も多くありました。
最終的に、バービーのファンやすでに映画を知っている人であれば、このピンクのビルボード広告は効果的であり、新規の顧客を獲得したいのであれば、もう少しわかりやすい広告が必要かもしれない。この広告の効果はターゲット層によって異なると落ち着きました。
